WHAT IS ....... a "MUNICIPAL EMERGENCY" ??

A MUNICIPAL EMERGENCY means a situation or impending situation caused by the forces of nature, an accident or an act or mishap that constitutes a danger of major proportions to our citizens , their properties and / or the natural environment.

Basically it is an event that on duty staff , emergency responders or existing public services cannot stabilize due to the size or pending duration of the situation.

The declaration of a Municipal State of Emergency is the responsibility of the Municipality. On one hand the Municipality has tremendous flexibility regarding this decision , but , there are things that have to be considered prior to the declaration of a Municipal State of Emergency. It is not something that can be undertaken lightly on the advice of one or two persons.

Sad things occur in our municipality ; a fatal accident , a total barn fire. These events can be devastating to the persons involved , but , such events are not "municipal emergencies" .
