Augusta Public Library Volunteers Celebrated
Augusta Matters by Deputy Mayor Jeff Shaver
Last Tuesday, Councillor Michele Bowman and I attended the Augusta Public Library in Algonguin for our Annual Volunteer Appreciation Evening. The event was hosted by our very talented library staff, Angela Knight, Corwin Gonneau and Kimberly Craig in the old schoolhouse portion of the library which where the library volunteers were recognized for the countless hours of time donated over the past year. Our devoted volunteers are available to assist everyone from improving computer skills, genealogy programs, reading selections, museum passes, movie selections, sports and recreation equipment rental. All these services are free to the public. The library of today is not just about books, but an organization that is always looking for new ideas for families to participate either by learning, enjoying a good book or just having fun. This is where the staff and volunteers excel. So, next time you wish to go to one of the museums in Ottawa or enjoy a kayak for the weekend, visit Augusta Township Library and remember to thank our volunteers.
As we see the sure signs of Fall taking shape, we know what is just around the corner. Yes, it is the Annual Prescott Santa Clause parade on Friday November 15th beginning at 7:00pm. Our Youth Advisory Committee (Y.A.C.) is currently decorating their float for this year. Be sure to give them a wave and a smile. I would also like to mention to everyone when driving this Thursday to watch for our Trick or Treaters as they go to house to house.
Also, I would like to invite everyone to attend the Remembrance Ceremonies within the township. Maynard will be holding their ceremony on November 10th at 12:30 at the Maynard Cemetery. There will be a church service prior at 10:30 at the Victoria United Church in Maynard. North Augusta will be holding their ceremony on November 11th at 11:00 at the cenotaph in North Augusta. There will be a church service prior at the North Augusta United Church beginning at 10:15 am. Let us all remember the ultimate sacrifice that our loved ones have given. Lest we forget, we will remember them.
